California Kelp Forest — Where We First Descended
The California Kelp Forest design represents where our underwater story truly began.
The first place we ever dove was in the kelp forests off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. As new divers, nothing could have prepared us for what was waiting beneath the surface. Descending into that underwater world and seeing the towering stalks of kelp rising toward the sunlight was something we would never forget.
Swimming between those massive strands of kelp felt like moving through an underwater forest. But what amazed us even more was the life within it. Fish moved through the leaves, marine animals found shelter among the stalks, and everywhere we looked, the kelp provided food, protection, and a home for an incredible variety of sea life.
Over the years, the Channel Islands have become one of the places where we experience this ecosystem at its best. From brilliant orange Garibaldi and California sheephead to sea lions, lobsters, rays, and countless other species, every dive reminds us just how alive these waters are.
The Channel Islands and Southern California's kelp forests are known throughout the diving community as a destination worth experiencing—not simply for what you can see, but for what it feels like to descend beneath the surface and become part of that environment, even if only for a little while.
For us, though, the kelp forest means something even more.
It was the beginning.
It was where we first discovered the underwater world together, where our fascination with diving took hold, and where a lifetime of underwater adventures began.
The California Kelp Forest design is our tribute to that first descent and to the extraordinary ecosystem that continues to bring us back year after year.
